Moncton’s Curling Beauséjour will host the fifth annual Sounds Fantastic Early Bird Challenge, beginning Friday.
The event is an opportunity for some of the top curling teams in the Maritimes to meet before they head out for their different levels of competition during the season.
The Challenge is made up of 16 teams in four sections. Each rink will play five preliminary games with the top eight qualifying for the playoffs on Sunday.
Men’s teams include Terry Odishaw, James Grattan, Scott Jones of New Brunswick, Mark Kehoe of Nova Scotia and reigning Canadian junior men’s champion Brett Gallant of P.E.I. Women’s squads include Sylvie Robichaud and Ashley Howard of Moncton, Andrea Kelly of Fredericton and former world junior champion Suzanne (Gaudet) Birt of P.E.I.
Playoffs will be held Sunday with quarter-finals at 9 a.m., semifinals at noon and the championship final at 3 p.m.
Event pass costs $10 or $5 for a day pass
